Synopsis and Discussion
Sunny skies and warmer temperatures, Monday, are helping to push ozone into the low code YELLOW range. Particle pollution continues code GREEN. High pressure, anchored off of the coast, will control the weather, Tuesday, before a cold front approaches the state, Wednesday. Mostly sunny skies and temperatures returning to the 80s, Tuesday, will lead to good ozone production and a continuation of MODERATE ozone levels. Particle pollution may climb slightly to upper code GREEN, Tuesday. Clouds will become overcast, Wednesday, ahead of the cold front. Additionally, showers and thunderstorms will become prevalent, especially later in the day, Wednesday. As a result, ozone will drop back to code GREEN, joining particle pollution. Clouds and showers will linger into Thursday, as well, helping to keep the air quality code GREEN (GENTRY). *** A ban on all open burning remains in effect for 19 counties (Alamance, Anson, Cabarrus, Chatham, Davidson, Davie, Forsyth, Gaston, Guilford, Iredell, Mecklenburg, Montgomery, Moore, Randolph, Rockingham, Rowan, Stanly, Stokes and Union) within the N.C. Forest Service's jurisdiction due to increased wildfire risk from the current severe to extreme drought conditions and has canceled all burning permits for these counties until further notice.
