Air quality levels continue to be in the YELLOW range as winds become calm and smoke from prescribed burns in the region affect visibility. Winds will begin to come out of the northeast and increase in speed for Friday as high pressure slowly slides out to sea and a backdoor front covers the eastern part of the state. Prefrontal winds will arrive Friday night and shift winds to the southwest. These gusty prefrontal winds will remain in place as the front stalls over Tennessee until another low forms along the boundary and eventually plows through the Triad Sunday. This extended prefrontal flow will keep temperatures in the mid 70s and AQI levels in the YELLOW range. Once the front passes through the state, AQI levels should return to the upper GREEN range Sunday. (Bodenhamer)
